It is stated in the Denmark immigration official website that Nordic nationals are at liberty to live, work and study in Denmark. EU and EEA citizens including Swiss nationals may be subjected to special considerations based on the EU Rules on Freedom of Movement.
A temporary residence permit is tantamount to a work permit according to the Denmark immigration official website. This clause holds true for those who are holders of a Danish residence permit under the asylum visa or family reunification and humanitarian grounds category. If a visitor in Denmark does not hold a work permit and then thought of working illegally in Denmark, deportation is inevitable after being fined or imprisoned.
According to the Denmark immigration official website there are other groups granted the freedom to work in Denmark without the necessity of a residence and/or work permit. Who are these groups?
- Diplomats and their family, foreign embassy staff and other people employed by diplomats and the embassy who live in Denmark
- Persons employed in international transportation such as trains and buses
- Employees of international Danish commercial sea vehicles as long as the ship call at a Danish port for a maximum of 25 times in a year.
The Denmark immigration official website also stipulates that lecturers and researchers who were invited to lecture or teach in Denmark are exempted from procuring a work permit. Musicians, artists and other entertainers who are part of a worthy and significant cultural artistic show are also exempted from getting a work permit.
